UAA Vaccination Clinic – 12th June 2021
On Saturday 12 June a vaccination clinic was organised as part of a project between Public Health England, Support Northamptonshire’s Community Champions project and the United African Association. The aim was to enable anybody, regardless of their immigration status to have the vaccine, should they wish to do so. The vaccine was available to anyone over 18 at the popup clinic, no appointment was necessary. The pop-up clinic was done in a neutral venue, in a location where there was a large African, African-Caribbean and Asian population and one that was easily accessible by many people. The event was publicised by Councillor Tony Aslam as well as within the BAME networks.
A small team of community champions were on hand to reassure the visiting public and to assist with handing out the medical questionnaires.
On the day a total of 59 people of all ages, races and religions came to have their vaccine. Such was the popularity of the event that within 3 hours the allocated doses had ran out. We look forward to setting other pop-up vaccination centres in Wellingborough and other locations in the county.
